Chelsea’s latest big touch in the summer transfer window, taking our spend to over £150million, arrives with big hair and high expectations, as 24-year-old left-back Marc Cucurella joins from Brighton & Hove Albion.
A dramatic week of this transfer happening, then not happening, then happening again, has now been seen over the line for a transfer fee of £55+7m, with Cucurella signing a six-year deal to tie him to the club until 2028. In return, Brighton are also getting our young centre-back Levi Colwill on a season-long loan.
CLUB STATEMENT: MARC CUCURELLA.
Following reports from numerous media outlets this week, we can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Brighton and Hove Albion for the signing of Marc Cucurella.

Cucurella had been on our radar for a while now, and Chelsea made a solid play (perhaps as strong as €30m) for his signature a few years ago, although we would eventually sign Ben Chilwell at the place and that Cucurella would end up staying in Spain with Getafe. He would eventually move to England twelve months later, and impress well enough with Brighton to be named Player of the Year and Player of the Year, and earn his move to SW6.
Primarily left-back, Cucurella has also played a decent amount of left centre-back in a back-three, giving us plenty of flexibility on that side of defence.
“Marc is an elite defender of proven quality in the Premier League and he will further strengthen our squad for the new season. We continue to work on and off the pitch, and we are delighted to have Marc part of the present and future at Chelsea.
