EXCLUSIVE: In the wake of the removal of Warner Bros Discovery bat girl for HBO Max, he highlighted a silver lining for DC: Todd Phillips’ Joker after, Joker: Madness for Two, gets a release date of October 4, 2024.
Warners already had the day on hold for an untitled DC event movie, so it’s no shock to see joker 2 liquidation in the first weekend of October: Warners took the October domestic opening to an all-time high of $96.2 million with Joker in 2019. The film reached $335.4 million domestically and worldwide, it is the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, grossing $1.07 billion. Joker won two Oscars: Best Actor for star Joaquin Phoenix and Original Score for Hildur Guðnadóttir. The film was nominated for 11 Oscars including Best Picture and Phillips for Best Director.
Deadline learned this thanks to a recent update from Comscore.
As noted in Phillips’ social media post of the script cover in June, the sequel is titled Joker: Madness for two, which is a French reference for a medical term relating to a mental disorder that affects two or more people.
We learn that a start of production in December is on track to Joker: Folie à Deux.
As mentioned earlier, one of the reasons bat girl was unplugged had to do with how it would disrupt the DC multiverse continuum which is traced to the flash on July 23, 2023. Warner Bros. Discovery, led by David Zaslav, is serious about making DC a fiercely competitive brand with Disney’s Marvel.
