Anne Heche was involved in a violent car accident on Friday that left her “severely burned” and “intubated” in hospital, reports TMZ.
The ‘Vanished’ actress, 53, was reportedly driving her blue Mini Cooper down a street in suburban Los Angeles around noon when it crashed into the garage of an apartment complex.
According to the outlet, bystanders tried to help Heche out of the vehicle, but she allegedly backed off and drove off before crashing into another house where her car was “engulfed” in flames.
It appears that Heche may have been under the influence of alcohol, as a bottle with a red cap was seen in the cup holder of the car shortly before the crash. However, the Los Angeles Police Department could not be immediately reached.
Aerial footage of video of the crash obtained by Fox11 shows smoke billowing from the house it crashed into.
Sources told TMZ that Heche is currently intubated in the hospital, but is “expected to live.”
“Her condition prevents doctors from performing tests to determine if she was driving under the influence of alcohol,” the outlet also reported.
Heche, known for his high-profile romance with Ellen DeGeneres in the ’90s, has spoken openly about his previous battle with drug addiction.
“I drank. I smoked. I did drugs. I slept with people. I did everything I could to take the shame out of my life,” she said. told ABC News in 2020, adding that her choices were the result of her painful childhood which stemmed from being sexually abused by her father, Donald Heche.
“I’m not crazy,” the ‘Six Days Seven Nights’ star also said at the time. “But it’s a crazy life. I was raised in a crazy family and it took 31 years for me to be crazy.
